Claiming to be green is trendy and companies out there are taking advantage. Don't believe all the hype.10 GREEN CHIC-AND EASY-WAYS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE- Ditch bottled water: refill a sassy thermos. - Pop little purchases in your purse, not a shopping bag.- Sip biodynamic wine.- Choose cashmere, not acrylic. - Let your hair air dry for a while before you blow dry: less frizz, less energy consumed.- Unplug (and put away) unsightly cell phone chargers.- Opt for quality over quantity in everything you buy.- Cut down on clutter.- Limit your consumption of anything packaged in plastic.- Support local designers.BUT REMEMBER:Don't go out and replace everything you own, from your makeup to your wardrobe to your furniture, with (theoretically) ecofriendly products. I like this book a lot. I carry it around in my pocketbook and read it anytime I have any spare time. It talks about everything green from green homes, dining, beauty, fashion, transportation, parties, and much more.
Lots more than I expected

Other reviews have mentioned some specifics this book covers, so I just wanted to add an overall note. I almost passed up because of the title--being chic is fine, but it's not a huge priority for me. But this book goes a lot deeper than one would expect. I would even venture to recommend it to men, too, because:
* It's entertainingly written--an effortless, often amusing read by a lively author. Topics and data are well-chosen, clearly explained and not intimidating.
* It covers great basic info and makes recommendations on how to go however green you want. She's realistic, not militant or condescending.
* It gives specific sources for the genres of products mentioned, unlike some other green books.
The "chic" focus and conversational writing helped me introduce the concept of green living to some friends who wouldn't have thought of going green. This as a great starter book.
quick, fun, and very informative

I read this book in a day or two. It was very informative, but very fun to read because she writes it in a user friendly way. I was thinking about buying a bunch of these and passing them out to my friends. She got me thinking about all the crazy pesticides and chemicals that are sprayed on everything we use from our mattresses to our clothes. This book made me want to change the way I live in all aspects. Get it!
Everything considered?

In the book's section about personal care products, the author completely and condescendingly glosses over many viable and wonderful female personal care alternatives, even admitting that she did not "even entertain" these options. If she didn't thoroughly research and consider options related to something as personal as tampons, how much thought could she have put into the rest of the book?
The author's flippant dismissal of the cup as a valid alternative to tampons is both frustrating and worrisome. It's frustrating because the cup is a fabulous alternative to tampons that is more "green chic" than even organic tampons could ever dream of being: there is no waste created, there are no harmful chemicals, it lasts up to 10 years and can be effectively cleaned, and it's incredibly convenient and cost effective.
Her dismissal is worrisome because if she is so quick to dismiss a wonderful product like the cup, what other products did she dismiss without any research or thought? What other amazing and simple products did she refuse to consider for inclusion in her book merely because the idea did not appeal to her?
Being "green" is about seeing our world and daily lives differently and creatively and if she said, "Um, no. Thank you" to the cup, I question her ability to sort through every other part of daily life to find the best products. I am proud of the man who at least included the cup in HIS book about being ecofriendly and was willing to discuss that option without all the "eww, gross" comments that Matheson included in hers.
And to all the women out there who were left wanting more: use the cup! It's amazing, I love it, have been using it for years and have convinced all my friends to switch over, too. Even organic tampons create waste that can be avoided!
Such an useful book!

I love this book - it shows you so many simple ways to a greener lifestyle. All the advices are easy to follow - anyone can apply these small changes to their lifestyle. I love the fact that everything is written as a suggestion rather than "a must do" - it makes it so much more pleasant to go green. I even ordered another copy and send it as a Christmas gift to very good friends of mine who are trying to have a more nature conscious lifestyle.
